MISSION STATEMENT
Impart information that will encourage and enable responsible decision
making concerning alcohol.
PURPOSE
To educate young adults (high school and college age) and their
parents as to the responsible use of alcohol, the effects of alcohol
and how to deal with excess use by others.
GOALS
To work with high schools, colleges, other organizations and institutions
to communicate information about responsible use of alcohol. Address
high school and college age young adults and their parents as appropriate.
The organization will distribute educational information. Those
under the legal drinking age will hear that the only responsible
choice is NON-USE and learn the consequences of breaking the law.
Those of legal drinking age will be advised of the laws relative
to the use of alcohol as they apply to adults.
The information will describe:
- The effects of alcohol on the body.
- How to recognize the effects on oneself and others.
- How to encourage responsible use (for those of legal
drinking age).
- How to determine when medical attention is necessary and to
err on the side of safety in making that decision to call for
help

Cynthia McCue, MSPA
President, B.R.A.D. Foundation
Certified Public Accountant
My educational and professional background is as a self-employed
CPA.
The experience that brings me to speak for Be Responsible About
Drinking, Inc. has nothing to do with accounting; it is as a parent
whose son died of alcohol poisoning.
On November 5, 1998 our son, Bradley, turned 21. He celebrated
his birthday in a way that has become increasingly popular, drinking "his
age in shots". That amount of alcohol was lethal and he died
that night of alcohol poisoning.
In response to such a needless tragedy, my husband John and I
founded Be Responsible About Drinking, Inc. (B.R.A.D Foundation)
to give us the vehicle to distribute educational information about
alcohol in general, specifically alcohol poisoning.
The educational information presented originally came from our
desire to prevent another tragedy, but has developed over time
based on the questions and input from students, parents and other
concerned individuals. We have worked closely with the Health Education
Department at Michigan State University, where Bradley was a student
at the time of his death. In the summer of 2000, MSU and the Foundation
won a two year U.S. Department of Education grant to study the
effectiveness of our 21st birthday card. The results affirmed our
effort as an evidence based initiative to address a high risk drinking
event.
Our website, www.brad21.org has been well received by college
and high school educators. In the past 4 years I have been invited
to speak in over 180 schools, in 13 states across the country,
reaching over 38,000 students and parents. I have spoken with middle
school and high school students, college students and parents.

Jasmine Greenamyer, MPH
Program Director, B.R.A.D. Foundation
Ms. Greenamyer enthusiastically joined our staff as a part-time
Program Director in August of 2003. She oversees the administration
of our educational materials and will be writing grant proposals
to further the efforts of the Foundation.
From 2000-2003 she worked at Michigan State University (MSU) as
the Alcohol and Other Drug Coordinator. Under her programmatic
efforts MSU students went from 58% to 66% reporting five or fewer
alcohol drinks consumed per outing (2002 National Collegiate Alcohol
Assessment). Ms. Greenamyer’s utilizes the environmental
management approach, social marketing, harm reduction and other
evidence based models to target high risk drinking. She received
over $900,000 in grants to create, implement and evaluate alcohol
misuse programs. One of the first grants obtained was in partnership
with the B.R.A.D. Foundation to evaluate the 21st birthday card.
Ms. Greenamyer received her Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan and her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. She is currently the Director of Community Engagement at the Colon Cancer Alliance in Washington DC where she oversees the CCA's national chapter and volunteer program. Ms. Greenamyer is an active member of the American College Health Association.
